Wildfire Watch Blazing Across Northeast

Wildfire risks remain high across the Northeast due to recent dry spells and powerful winds. Red flag warnings are in effect from New Jersey to Massachusetts. Despite some rainfall over the weekend, strong winds and low humidity continue to fuel fire risk. Officials warn that any outdoor fire could spread quickly under current conditions.

The Jennings Creek Wildfire on the New Jersey-New York border has engulfed 3,500 acres and remains only 20% contained. Officials in Connecticut are monitoring 82 active brush fires and in Massachusetts, firefighters are battling dozens of wildfires. Although a front from the Midwest is forecast to bring tropical moisture by Thursday, the anticipated rain won’t be enough to significantly reduce the risk of fire.

  • Follow all official directives and evacuate if necessary.
  • Wear a mask in areas with poor air quality as a result of wildfire smoke.
